WHO WE BE!

In 2002 Naomi Bragin created DREAM Dance Company to research, promote and illuminate Afro-Diasporic memory through movement, imagining ways to imbue traditional form with new meaning. In her choreography, Full Circle, nominated for the 2007 Isadora Duncan Dance Award for Choreography, Naomi and collaborator Jose Barroso cycled Hip-Hop via Afro-Cuban Rumba Columbia to its African roots, exploring distinct Diasporic experiences and common legacies of dissent and liberation that sparked each cultureís development. Uniting these improvisational forms, Full Circle worked to convey collective aesthetic through cultural interplay. Knowing that folklore historically derives from practices inclined to collect, classify and restrict cultural expression, Full Circle began to vision a future aesthetics in folkloric performance.

The DREAM Dance Company has received the generous support of the Creative Work Fund, East Bay Community Foundation, Zellerbach Foundation, PUEBLO and California Arts Council.
